How did I spend the summer or experience an economical vacation
The crisis is not a reason to refuse to rest. An economical vacation is the perfect solution!
How do you travel? Looking for travel company advertising, looking at package prices, sighing, looking again and sighing again? Or maybe you have decided to postpone the rest for the time being due to increased prices, the ruble exchange rate, a decrease in salaries and other troubles?
No need to rush to conclusions. In fact, the trip can be both exciting and comfortable, and very inexpensive.
To do this, you need a little patience, curiosity, time. Plus the experience and advice of our editor of the Travel section, Olga Chernomyss, who made an economical trip to Italy this summer.
“Well, it started!” Said the husband when he saw on my computer a page with the last-minute offers of the airlines. This meant that I began to put together a “puzzle” of our future vacation. Before my vacation, I had two and a half months, but I had already begun the search Honestly, I don’t understand people who think that it’s difficult or boring - I’m really excited in these searches, I’m surfing the Internet looking for the cheapest tickets, the most interesting routes, the most attractive hotels, I’m exploring travel forums, reading books, I’ve been conjuring over the thick atlas of the world. For several years now, our family has hardly used the services of travel agencies, partly because I like to build my own vacation much more, partly because of the banal savings. ”I must say that“ wild ”tourism costs at least 30% cheaper than "organized."
Before rushing into the abyss of the Internet, you must answer your question: what do I want to get from the rest? It is important to identify the main goals and secondary ones. See the maximum number of attractions? Lying on the beach, a couple of times out on trips? To study the features of national cuisine? Having dealt with this, you will plan your trip much more meaningfully. Because it is impossible to combine several completely different goals in one or two weeks of rest, but you can only get tired, disappointed and not feel anything in the end.
We defined our goals as follows: the main thing is to see the inside life of the Italian hinterland. To live in the countryside, taste the local food and wine, enjoy the scenery and at the same time, as far as possible, see the ancient cities. From here, naturally, destination points flowed - the regions of Emilia-Romagna and Tuscany. I made a bookmark in the atlas and gradually began to mark on the map those places where I would like to visit.
Looking at my map, I proceeded to the next step - the search for the destination airport and airline. It turned out that Forlì would be the most convenient airport for me. The town of Forlì, located in Emilia-Romagna, is extremely convenient as a starting point for traveling in Italy. In half an hour you can reach the east coast from it: to the lovely resort towns like Cervia or Milano Marittimo, in 40 minutes - to Rimini, beloved by Russian tourists, and in an hour or so - to the heart of Tuscany, beautiful Florence, to the amazing Ravenna with its mosaics
In addition, the choice fell on Forlì also because it is a very cozy and extremely convenient airport, compactly located, so any movement on it takes a couple of minutes. And, finally, the planes of the Italian airline Jet Jet fly here, which I have been choosing for several years. This is one of the so-called low-cost airlines, using which a huge number of Europeans can afford travel around the world. "Low-cost" in translation means "low price" - and this is true. For example, our tickets cost 200 euros (round trip), which is two times less than other airlines offered.
But buying tickets from Wind Jet and other low-cost airlines has its own peculiarities. Firstly, most often they do not have offices, so reservations can only be made online. Secondly, the cost of tickets may vary. Having found a cheap ticket (and sometimes there are prices of 40 euros, or even lower), you need to hurry up with a decision - because in two days the same ticket will most likely be 20-25 euros more expensive, and in a month the price can rise one and a half times . And thirdly, a credit card is required to purchase airline tickets over the Internet.
By the way, it turned out that Wind Jet has expanded its geography since last year - now it is possible to get directly from Verona and Sicily from Moscow, St. Petersburg, and with a change to Forlì to almost any European capital.
Since we decided to try a natural, non-touristic life in Italy, I set about looking for a private house where we would stay. In the search I used special sites dedicated to agritourism. This is a very popular type of tourism, namely in Italy and specifically in Tuscany. As a rule, while you live in a house with farmers who are engaged in farming - cultivate olive orchards or vineyards, raise cows and sheep
Choosing a suitable house (in the photographs it was very cute, with cozy bedrooms, a terrace, a pool and a barbecue area, and the scenery around me seemed beautiful), I filled out the booking form directly on the site, paid with a credit card and received confirmation from the owners. A rental week cost us about 400 euros - quite a bit for Italy in the highest season.
If we were going to relax at sea with my daughter, I would look for small hotels in Cervia or Milano Marittimo - these two towns, flowing smoothly into each other, are located on the Mediterranean coast and offer a relaxed and relaxing holiday, with long evenings in coastal restaurants , boardwalk after dinner. A sandy gentle entrance to the sea, seashells on the shore, carousels, as if children like boats and yachts especially.
Once you try to travel around a foreign country by car, it is difficult to abandon this in the future. Without being constrained by distances and schedules, you can get much more impressions in less time.
In search of the best deal, I went through many companies. As a rule, you can calculate the cost of renting a car directly on the site - you enter the data (rental time, car class, type of insurance) and get the final price. The longer the time you take the car, the cheaper it is to rent one day. Watch for opportunities to save. For example, I found that one of the companies I'm interested in provides a 10% discount to holders of my bank's credit card. Which I took advantage of.
The most convenient and cheapest is to take and return the car at the same point. There is no problem with this at Forlì Airport: in the arrivals hall, I counted seven offices of different car rental companies! If you don’t like one, you can always contact the other.
In Italy, and especially in Emilia-Romagna and Tuscany, you can fearlessly go to the simplest (and cheapest) taverns, restaurants, pizzerias. On average, for a delicious lunch with a bottle of local wine, we paid for two no more than 50 euros.
Be sure to try a variety of pastas, and tomatoes with mozzarella, and parmesan, and prosciutto (ham, cut into thin slices). And do not ignore the wine. These two regions are considered the most "wine" in Italy - from here come the most famous varieties. We loved Chianti the most. But the equally famous Lambrusco, Montalcino, Sangiovese are able to make you their fans forever ...
It seems that the sun is pouring from our summer photos, the smells of grass are heard, the birds singing is heard. We traveled across the country, walked around Florence, had dinner on the shores of Lake Trasimen, walked along the edge of the sea to Viareggio. We made friends with the owners of our house, which, as it turned out, stood on a hilltop, from where we admired the views of Tuscany.
Our expenses amounted to 1,500 euros, including souvenirs, four bottles of wine brought home, and ice cream three times a day. And it seems, it’s time for me to start planning the next trip.
